If you want to help... Image of an open book

For over 8,000 adults in lower New Castle County, it is difficult or impossible to fill out job applications, read labels on medicine bottles or help their children with homework.  With the help of NEW START volunteers, the lives of many adults are being improved.

You can help by:

  • Becoming a volunteer tutor
  • Telling someone about NEW START
  • Helping with fundraising, office work
  • Making a contribution

How does it work?

Tutors must complete a 10-hour tutor training workshop.

Tutors are asked to make a one year commitment.

Students and tutors meet at public places such as libraries and churches.

Students are asked to set and meet long-term and short-term goals.

Tutors must submit monthly progress reports to the program.
