ProLiteracy America
NEW START is a non-profit, educational organization whose mission is to
enable adults to acquire the listening, speaking, reading, writing, mathematics
and technology skills they need to solve problems they encounter in daily
life; to take advantage of opportunities in their environment; and to participate
in the transformation of their society.
One of many programs sponsored by the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library, NEW START is affiliated with ProLiteracy America, the largest volunteer-based literacy provider in the United States. NEW START has been serving adults in the lower New Castle County area since 1985. The Program is funded through the Delaware Department of Education, corporate and individual contributions and in-kind services of local libraries, churches and individuals.
The main office is located in the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library, with a satellite learning center at 148 Flamingo Drive in Sparrow Run.
